The views are everywhere, Mountains have a different
appearance every day and the vegetation is very lush. It is a pure pleasure
to be on this course. Cariari is a private but offers exclusive access to
guests of the Herradura Golf Resort & Conference Center and the Costa Rica
Marriott. Caddies are required on this mature track.
This heavily wooded par 71 course measures 6,590 yards from the Championship
tees, but plays much longer than posted. The Cariari's fairways are often
narrow but with few fairway bunkers, while its greens tend to be on the
large size and well guarded by carefully placed sand traps. The Bermuda
grass greens are fairly large, fast and well-bunkered. One of the best in
the country.
The Costa Rican Open is played here annually and hosts a field of very
talented professionals from Europe, United States and many other parts of
the world.
The course record is held jointly by Raymond Floyd and Costa Ricans Álvaro
Ortiz and Mario Pérez. The Cariari was the site of the Friendship Cup in
1979 & 1980. These PGA sponsored events were won by Larry Zeigler (2 under)
and Raymond Floyd (9 under).
With fewer than 200 golfing members, the exclusive private Cariari Golf
Course is one of the least crowded courses found throughout the country.
The Cariari Country club is probably the finest Club in all of Costa Rica.
There are 3 swimming pools, including the one used for the national
competition. The are 3 restaurants and bars. The club has games rooms
basketball court, indoor and outdoor tennis. A very well equipped gymnasium
is part of what you get at Cariari as well.
The Cariari Country Club, one of the best course in Central America, is a
beautiful place to play when arriving in Costa Rica, and with proper
planning, a great way to end your stay as well. It is a short distance from
the national capital of San José in the central valley.
